Hunza
The History of Hunza
Hunza started as a small company in the mid 1990’s and initially started out making low voltage wire wound transformers. We soon realised there was a gap in the market for quality exterior luminaires and after significant research started production of the first Hunza Luminaires. Initially, The Hunza lighting range was designed around halogen lamps but, after the introduction of PureLED, significant investment was put into R&D resources to develop higher output LED solutions. This led to the launch of our commercial and architectural grade fixtures in the High Power and Ultra series. These are market leading sustainable products with innovative designs offering efficient performance.
The Hunza Ethos
"Yes We Can" reflects our dedication to delivering sustainable, quality outdoor lighting solutions where the main focus has always been to manufacture modular designed fixtures from high quality durable materials that are aesthetically pleasing and offer reliability and longevity. There is no “punching or thumping” in the manufacture of our luminaires, only engineering.
Hunza's Products and Systems
The main focus for Hunza is to offer precision engineered outdoor luminaires which feature high Ingress protection capabilities. The powder coated aluminium range is supplied with 5 years body warranty, while the natural copper and 316 (marine grade) stainless steel fixtures, which are sufficiently robust and designed to withstand coastal and offshore conditions, are covered with 10 years body warranty. The internals of all Hunza luminaires are covered for 5 years.
Hunza's Sustainability and Environmental Policies
Hunza PureLED light fixtures feature a modular design with fully recyclable components including plug-and-play field replaceability. This dedication to sustainability is a fundamental part of the ethos and is reflected in all our policies and procedures. Our aim is to source as many materials and processors as possible from within a 20-kilometre radius of our manufacturing plant in Auckland, New Zealand. Alongside our sister company LuxR, Hunza introduced an environmentally friendly UV stable, eco-matt, powder coated aluminium finish, which has been developed by Dulux. The benefits of this change have resulted in no harmful waste products being created from the manufacturing process.
What Sets Hunza Apart
Many competitors in this industry supply dedicated LED light fixtures that are sealed units meaning in the event of an electrical or LED failure they cannot be repaired and often end up being thrown away. Hunza and LuxR luminaires are designed with sustainability at the forefront of the design and in most cases can be refurbished / repaired. The products are manufactured to withstand climatic and environmental extremes and the field replaceable LED Boards are covered with a five-year LED replacement warranty as standard. Our outdoor lights are carefully machined in New Zealand from the finest materials, such as marine grade stainless steel, cast solid bronze, and solid copper. This commitment to quality ensures our lights are not only aesthetically pleasing but also robust and durable, meaning they will last for a very long time. The result of this policy is that no light should have to be thrown away into landfill, instead they can always be repaired and refurbished.
Our Future
Like our sister company, we are planning to continue our steady growth by launching new products using the latest LED technology and materials to offer a high-quality sustainable lighting range. In addition to this, we are driven to continue to explore options for further reducing the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes.
