Hunter Wireless Valve Link Solar Panel Kits for WVL Receivers
The Wireless Valve Link system is the newest technological innovation from industry leading Hunter Industries. Compatible with the ICC2 and HCC irrigation controllers, this system allows you to wirelessly control irrigation zones without the use of cable, massively saving on the cost of trenching and installation as well as allowing the system to be expanded in the future. Thanks to LoRa technology, the radio frequency can travel up to 650m (line-of-sight) which can be further doubled with the use of a signal booster, allowing them to be used for even the largest of residential projects. Best of all, this system can be added to existing multi-core or decoder systems (max. of 54 total stations per controller).
These Wireless Valve Link solar panel kits are an optional accessory to enable the Wireless Valve link receivers, mounted in the lid of each valve box, to be powered by solar energy instead of the standard 2 x 9v batteries. This not only reduces maintenance by removing the need for periodic battery replacement, but also saves throwing spent batteries away. This especially adds up over the life of the system, with the solar panels expected to last a minimum of 5 years. Each solar panel kit comes with 12m of cable, allowing them to be placed some distance away from the valve box itself. We recommend placing this cable inside conduit to provide protection from UV degradation and physical damage.
They can be either post or wall mounted, and thanks to the ball joint design the solar panel can be fine-tuned to face the prominent direction of sunlight. As they are solar powered, they should of course be mounted outdoors in an area with ample sunlight exposure.
As the internal rechargeable batteries within the solar panel cannot be shipped pre-charged, it is crucial to leave the solar panel in the sunlight for a small period of time before installation, ensuring the internal battery pack is connected internally via the plug-in connector.
They are relatively simple to install and wire back to the receivers, especially with the use of the step-by-step videos and PDFs on this page. Once the solar panel is connected to the receiver, the receiver must then be set on the bluetooth app as being powered by solar panel rather than batteries. Once this is complete, the app will show a solar icon instead of the usual battery symbol.
