Hunter Wireless Valve Link Receivers
The Wireless Valve Link system is the newest technological innovation from industry leading Hunter Industries. Compatible with the ICC2 and HCC irrigation controllers, this system allows you to wirelessly control irrigation zones without the use of cable, massively saving on the cost of trenching and installation as well as allowing the system to be expanded in the future. Thanks to LoRa technology, the radio frequency can travel up to 650m (line-of-sight) which can be further doubled with the use of a signal booster, allowing them to be used for even the largest of residential projects. Best of all, this system can be added to existing multi-core or decoder systems (max. of 54 total stations per controller).
After plugging in the Wireless Valve Link plug-in module to the ICC2 or HCC controller, these receivers can then be programmed and assigned to specific stations on the controller. Available in 1, 2 or 4 station models, the system is designed to have a single WVL receiver in each valve box, with the model selected to match the number of solenoids in each valve box. Each Wireless Valve Link receiver can be programmed through the Hunter WVL smartphone app through the user friendly interface. For instructions on how to programme these valves with step-by-step instructions, please refer to the videos and PDFs on this page.
They are installed in the valve box lid using the 38mm core-drill attachment supplied with each WVL plug-in module. The threaded stem allows the wiring and battery compartment to be hidden inside the valve box, leaving just a small disc atop the valve box, reducing the visibility of the receiver units. Better yet, they are rated to IP68 to protect them from water ingress.
Once programmed and installed in place, they can be wired to the relevant solenoid valves using a suitable solenoid connector. The black wire is the "common" wire, with all black wires in the box connected to the receiver via this black wire. The red wires from the receiver should be connected separately to each individual solenoid valve. For more detailed instructions, please refer to the wiring video on this page.
There is a range of accessories available for this system, such as the aforementioned Signal Repeaters for increasing the range of the radio frequency, Antenna Extension Kits for situations where the controller (and therefore antenna) is situated inside a metal enclosure or building, and finally the Solar Panel Kits for WVL Receivers which enable solar power to be used to power the Wireless Valve Link Receivers instead of the usual 9v batteries.
